Turn it Off

I was just listening to "Turn it Off" by Paramore. I've never actually thought about the lyrics to this song and what they mean, until just now. I may be completely off, but here's a few of the lyrics and what they mean to me

I scraped my knees while I was praying
And found a demon in my safest haven
Seems like it's getting harder to believe in anything
Than just to get lost in all my selfish thoughts

This is what these words means to me:
Sometimes we get caught up in things we WANT and instead of talking to God as we should, we end up petitioning him during our prayer time. We lose focus a lot during this time also. Our minds wander off and we begin to say empty words to God. We start focusing on those things instead of what we're saying and our reltionaship with Him becomes less important. Eventually, we end up distancing ourselves from the one true friend we have to talk about everything with. The One who is our haven, who knows exactly how we are feeling.

And the worst part is
Before it gets any better
We're headed for a cliff
And in the free fall
I will realize
I'm better off
When I hit the bottom

What this means to me is:
I'm not going to lie, I'm not as close to God as I should be. It seems as if everytime we get close to God, we're reading our bible daily, and we are feeling good, we stop doing the things that helped get us to that point. Our reltionship with Him ends up becoming more distant once again. Our life begins to crumble. We start to feel the unbearable pressure of the world or something horrible happens. It's sad, but it usually takes a crisis or tragedy to make us come back to God. When we finally hit the bottom, we usually cry out for help because we realize we can't do it alone. We start developing a better relationship again because we HAVE to. We have nowhere else to turn.

Well, I can see behind the curtain
The wheels are cranking, turning
It's all wrong, the way we're working
Towards a goal that's non-existent
It's not existent,
but we just keep believing

This, to me, means:
A lot of the time we put other things before God. We have false hope. We believe that everything will be better once we just lose ten pounds, or have tons of friends, or get a boyfriend or girlfriend. The only way our lives will mean anything at all is if we live them for God. Make it your number one goal to be like him. We so often are willing to accept Jesus as our Saviour, but not as the Lord of our life.

Just thought I'd share this with you! =D
